High blood pressure is truly a silent killer. In fact, a heart attack or stroke may be the first sign that you even have a problem. That's why it's so important to get your blood pressure checked every time you go to the doctor -- especially if you're a woman.
High blood pressure can lead to stroke, kidney problems, heart trouble and other conditions.
About 35 million American women have high blood pressure, and a third of them don't know it. In part, experts say, the increase comes just because women are living longer and doctors are paying more attention to the problem. But less-benign factors -- such as the exploding use of anti-inflammatory medicines (which make your body retain salt) and ever-increasing waistlines -- may be at play in what the American Heart Association calls a rise in uncontrolled hypertension in women.
Fortunately, there are many ways to control your blood pressure, even without medication. And just knowing your numbers is half the battle, says Dan Jones, M.D., president of the AHA. But that doesn't mean fighting high blood pressure is a cinch. Here are the stories of three women whose high blood pressure took them by surprise. Think about them the next time that cuff goes around your arm.
Erin O'Connell Peiffer, 45
While Peiffer exper ienced hypertension during all three of her pregnancies, her blood pressure always returned to normal after each birth. Later, as she juggled working and caring for her young children, the thin, nonsmoking telecommunications executive who lives outside of Baltimore, Maryland, considered herself healthy (except for her high cholesterol). Then one day about seven years ago, she couldn't stop coughing during a water aerobics class. A month later, she was shocked to find out that she had congestive heart failure and pulmonary edema, or swelling of the lungs. High blood pressure was behind the problems. Following open-heart surgery to repair a 99 percent blockage in her left main coronary artery, Peiffer was terminated from her job because of her illness and went on disability. Looking back, she remembers that in her 20s, her blood pressure was elevated when she was first found to have high cholesterol. "They said it was white-coat hypertension [the idea that just being in a medical office can drive blood pressure up]," Peiffer says. "No one said, 'Hey, you need to exercise,' or anything." So she didn't. Now she's on two blood pressure medications -- an ACE inhibitor that lowers levels of blood vessel-tightening chemicals and a beta-blocker that slows heart rate -- and her pressure's normal. Daily two-mile walks help, too. "Get a baseline number, and keep an eye on it," she says. "Take care of yourself first so you can be there to take care of your children."

郵局誌(二)
時間來到了當日下午2點35分，號碼叫到了255號，當我右手邊的小姐正在2號窗口辦理時，另一名年約25、26的女子自稱她是255號，又說她在40分鐘前就打來電話問：輪到她了沒？
我因為正站在櫃檯前扶起那A4紙的三行詩並把它恢復它原來的站姿，以便有趣的詩可讓大家共賞，而恰巧站在正牌的255號隔壁。
正牌的255號，那傻蛋，對這樣突如其來，莫名其妙的事，一時反應不過來，不知所措的站在櫃檯前，一句話也沒說。
我只聽到櫃檯內的戴眼鏡小帥哥和冒牌的妙齡女子說：「如果她讓妳先辦，我就先辦妳的。」
這時候我已經不想管三行詩了，也無心管了，我可排了快一個鐘頭了，且全程用高跟鞋站著等。我問我隔壁的傻帽兒妳是幾號？她回我話說：255號。我又問了櫃檯內戴眼鏡小帥哥：機器會跑出兩張255號嗎？他說：只會有1張255號。緊接著我對妙齡女子說：我們在這裡都排了一個小時了，妳不能說妳是255號，就要先辦，255號下來還有256號要辦ㄚ。當下，妙齡女子看了我一眼，一言不發的調頭走人。

10月13日郵局之遊(一)
連續假期三天後的第一個工作天10/13(一)，郵局到了下午1點50分仍然是人山人海，我的號碼牌是256號，還有22個號碼才會叫到我。我家住鄉下，鄉下的郵局較小，只有三個窗口開放辦理所有一切郵務包括：郵儲、郵匯、劃撥、開戶…等業務，當然掛號信和賣郵票的一人櫃檯是照例的設在一樓入口處。
這是離我家最最近的郵局也是我最喜歡的郵局，因為她很小所以令人覺得溫暖、親切。我不但認識他們每個人也叫得出他們的名字，除了先前局長的名字外，因為他老是坐在裡面，我比較少和他互動。這是一間快樂的郵局，因為櫃檯內小職員們老是認真且快樂的為民眾服務著...。
時間來到了下午的2點20分我已經下樓，看到一個帥哥(鄉下鮮有帥哥的)、買了香蕉又吃完一根且等了一會兒，閒來無事看看二樓窗外的景像─除了電線桿和永遠老樣子的老麵店，景色依舊是單調得無趣、呆滯。也因為實在悶得發荒只好東看看西看看郵局內的郵政寶寶，又有新款郵政娃娃一個要價110元，好可愛！以前只要買郵政壽險是會送一個的；又看到了一張A4的白紙上用藍色原子筆寫著幾個斗大的字，打油詩，折好好放在3號窗口：
老的，都回家休息了......
大學畢業生，也很多......
台灣，明天真的會變得更好嗎？

Although Google is using a cartoonish approach to promote Chrome, the new browser underscores the gravity of Google's rivalry with Microsoft, whose Internet Explorer is used by about 75 per cent of Web surfers.
Google's lead in the lucrative internet search market is nearly as commanding, with its engine processing nearly two-thirds of the Web's queries.

卡神為台灣加油遭中共打壓， 政論節目開始新的口水， 從另一面相提出觀點如下：
早年臺灣的「良心報紙、良心水果攤.., 拿多少自己放錢。」這就是人與人的互信關係 也是臺灣人善良純樸的精神. 而一個鑽法條漏洞(銀行或卡公司)的人，在媒體上說自己多利害， 被媒體稱之為 「卡神」 無論馬扁貪污與否，
藍綠各自解讀， 但從沒有看到雙方公開說 ： 我就是犯法，但法律判不到我 ，至少我們還可以告訴孩子們說：對錯還未認定，
卡神的出現告訴我們: 走法條漏洞佔人便宜是受到表揚的
選舉前卡神向馬謝團隊毛遂自薦, 後而加入謝團隊, 時光倒流, 如果當初是加入馬團隊, 那??? 加上之前'棒球證'的事情.... 媒體朋友們,你們還要吹捧到何時? 5月份中共已通知各航空公司..旅行社 '因奧運期間加強安檢,望台胞簽證先辦好' 也就是說,如果到大陸機場才辦落地簽証, 有可能被原機遣送回台 如果在台灣先送簽台胞, 有在黑名單中 簽證就不會過, 當然就無法出發啦 不會是雖知簽證不會過, 硬要闖關製造出悲情的形象嗎? 藍綠的群眾, 不要被想要製造新聞的人而挑起情緒! 老師是用心教書, 學生專心上課, 商品鑑賞期是真的用不合才換.... 活在臺灣,對這塊土地上有份責任 ,'誠信''純樸'是臺灣最可愛的地方 希望找回臺灣的基本價值
聽說被媒體炒作出來的卡神--- 竟然還想要出來選立委.... 挖---看她那種自以為是的樣子- 年齡跟學經歷.....連話都講不清楚 從哪一點都看不出..她..有能力選立委.. 街上隨便抓幾個都比她強....... 這真是台灣媒體的悲哀.. 社會價值觀--被破壞殆盡 殆盡 ....

荷蘭的設計師Jelte van Geest所設計的一張椅子 (Take a seat)，只要透過每人獨有的圖書館證上的RFID，就可以驅動一張專屬的沙發椅緊緊跟著你，走到哪兒，找到書就能馬上坐下來，再也不用去找位子，
而且也不怕一旦離開位子， 一下就被人佔去的問題，因為這是你專屬的椅子。一旦人離開圖書館後，椅子還會自動歸位，神奇吧。更炫的還有，如果想在圖書館內辦個小型論壇，圖書館人員可以一次招喚多張椅子到指定場所，完全不用人手搬運，既節省人力又方便，實在太令人驚艷了，如果家中也有一張這麼棒的椅子，這該有多好。
